(26 Mar 2022) Ukrainian musicians performed a classical concert in Kharkiv's subway Saturday.
A cellist, bass player and three violinists played the Ukrainian national anthem, classical music, and adaptions of Ukrainian folk songs.
"Amid the darkness surrounding us now, it's extremely important to show that there are eternal values and future in our country, that our country is melodious, beautiful, intellectual and will overcome all these difficulties," said Sergiy Politutchy, director of Kharkiv Music Fest which was supposed to take place in the city Saturday.
The international classical festival Kharkiv Music Fest, one of the most prestigious annual festivals in Ukraine, was cancelled as the war started, but its director thought that music will help residents overcome "the hardship of these dark times".
Some of the residents came to the concert despite threats of shelling, and others will stay in the subway after the performance, fearing for their safety outside the shelter.
