Santa Rosa is the seat of Sonoma County and has the largest population of 333,000 (per 2020 census). This great city offers so much in the way of housing, culture, employment, and natural beauty.
Homes in Santa Rosa hover at a median of $700,000 for single family homes and $410,000 for condos/townhomes. The homes range from historical homes built in the late 1800’s to brand new construction. There are tons of neighborhoods so you can find something that is downtown, suburban, modern, or rural.
Since this is the largest town in Sonoma County there are a lot of career and educational opportunities. The major employers are in healthcare, government, and hospitality. Santa Rosa is home to dozens of hotels and wineries, both Kaiser Permanente and St. Josephs has large facilities within city limits, and since it’s the county seat the court house, county jail, Sonoma county sheriff, and Sonoma county offices are all here.
There are so many restaurants and locally owned small businesses in Santa Rosa as well. The Wednesday night farmers market is a great showcase for these and local bands as well.
If you want to commute from Santa Rosa to San Francisco you can do so via hwy 101 by car or bus, the SMART train, and the larkspur ferry. It will definitely take some time but so many people are able to retain or negotiate remote work that it makes sense to move somewhere where homes are well under 1 million dollars.
All in all Santa Rosa offers so many things: community, job opportunities, education, community, nightlife, lifestyle, wine country, nature, SF commute, and more!
