Japan's lawmakers have declared a climate emergency in a symbolic vote aimed at increasing pressure for action. They took a stand against climate change as they voted in the non-binding emergency declaration. It cites "unprecedented damage" from natural disasters exacerbated by climate change. Last month, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga had committed to a net-zero emissions goal by 2050.
