The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), known colloquially as the Hare Krishna movement or Hare Krishnas, is a Gaudiya Vaishnava religious organisation.[1] ISKCON was founded in 1966 in New York City by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.[2] Its core beliefs are based on Hindu scriptures, particularly the Bhagavad Gita and the Bhagavata Purana, and the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, which has had adherents in India since the late 15th century and American and European devotees since the early 1900s
The ISKCON Salem is located on a three acre plot about half a kilometer from the Government Engineering College and the Periyaar University. It is a 40 minute drive from the city of Salem just off the Bangalore-Madurai highway. This is a new property with a young and enthusiastic group of devotees. Swami H.H. Bhakti Vikasha Maharaj has been inspiring and blessing these devotees who have been working under his guidance.
The Origin of ISKCON in Salem
ISKCON is about the faith in Krishna consciousness which believes in the practical science behind the spiritual values explained in the ancient Vedic Literature. The very goal of this movement is to let the common people know about the universal principles of God to make them gain from peace, unity and spiritual understanding. The devotees of ISKCON believe that the chanting of the Holy Names connects them with the Almighty and develop a relationship with Him.
