In today's 2 minute garden tip, I share the first 3 plants you should start from seed every January. Growing plants from seeds is a great way to save money, and plants grow better than store bought transplants because they're better adapted to your environment. These are the first seed starts I begin each year. Start these 3 plants from seed NOW!

Onions, shallots and leeks are the first vegetable seeds I start each year, because they require transplanting early in the spring once the ground is workable and the truly hard freezes stop. I give transplanting dates in this video, but please be advised you'll need to alter them based on your location. I'm on the NC coast, so if you're well north or west of me, you may need to start seeds a couple weeks later.
