(24 Apr 2016) Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said on Sunday his party and the nation will hold Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif accountable as he announced the launch of a movement against corruption starting in Sindh province on 26 April.
Khan was speaking during a rally in Islamabad marking the 20th anniversary of PTI's formation.
Nawaz Sharif has been under tremendous pressure from opposition parties to step down since his family members were named in the mass leak of offshore account data from the Panama firm Mossack Fonseca.
Sharif announced that he would ask the country's chief justice to set up an independent judicial commission to probe charges based on the Panama papers regarding any illegal overseas investments.
But cricket-star-turned-politician Khan has demanded an unbiased probe into the wealth the Sharif family had amassed.
During Sunday's rally, he threatened street protests if the government failed to constitute an independent investigation into the matter.
