Speaking in a press conference after the first EU Summit meeting on Thursday in Brussels, President of the European Council Herman an Rompuy firmly stated that Romania didn't "bully" its way into joining the Schengen area by showing opposition to Serbia's EU candidate status. Earlier this week, diplomats from other member states had considered the move as a way to force the Netherlands to drop its veto on letting Romania join the EU's passport-free zone.
