Current worldwide demand for organ transplantation greatly outweighs the availability of transplants. As a result, 20 people die every day waiting for an organ transplant in the US alone. At the same time, the seemingly unrelated topic of 3D printing has flourished and become a part of many facets of human life, from printing toys to printing houses. Now, with the spectacular advancement of stem cell research, these two fields have begun to intersect—human tissues and organs have been recently printed.
In this Lunch and Learn, Augustana Associate Professor Tomislav Terzin presents an overview of the progress made in this exciting and new field of regenerative medicine.
