This was my first hike inside Mount Rainier National Park, and it was a great early-season hike. We parked at the terminus of the Carbon River Road, and walked the three miles to the trailhead to Green Lake. The decomissioned road is level, and overall is in great shape as it meanders through immense old-growth rain forest. The trail climbs roughly 1500 feet over 2 miles up to Green Lake. A viewpoint of Ranger Falls is halfway upslope, and is well worth the short spur trail.
