(16 Apr 2014) Denisa Hegic was eight when Serb soldiers stormed her house and killed her entire family at the beginning of the 1992-95 Bosnian war.
An aunt pulled her away from her mother's bloody body and they tried to run away, were caught but escaped again.
After 22 years, Hegic reunited with her family on Wednesday at the freezing mortuary where the remains of hundreds of Muslim Bosniaks killed during the Bosnian Serb ethnic killings campaign are stored after they were excavated from Bosnia's biggest mass grave.
Denisa's hands shook as she and her husband stood before her parents' remains at the Sejkovaca identification centre.
Her eyes moistened as she listed the relatives she lost on 20 July 1992, when Serb soldiers killed 1,200 people from hers and two neighbouring villages.
The Hegics hid Denisa, their only child, in the basement but she crawled out when the shooting started.
The soldiers saw her but they did not kill her.
Her aunt tried to run away, pulling Denisa by the hand, but they were caught and ended up in one of the three concentration camps that Serb forces had set up around the northern city of Prijedor.
They survived that too and left Bosnia for Australia and then for Germany, where she lives today.
Officials at the International Commission for Missing Persons called Denisa on Tuesday to tell her that DNA from a drop of blood she had given them years ago had helped to identify her relatives.
The remains of her husband's father, who was also from her village, were also found at the same mass grave, in Tomasica.
So far, 430 victims have been found at the Tomasica grave, which covers some 5,000 square metres (53,820 square feet) and is 10 metres (about 30 feet) deep.
