The Robbinsdale Area Schools Student Art Show is underway at the Robbin Gallery.
“This show is sixth through twelfth grade, and I am always impressed by the middle school level of art,” said Pat Fair, an organizer of the event as well as an art teacher at Armstrong High School.
Sandburg Middle School sixth grader Taylor Williamson was surprised to learn her art had been selected to be displayed in the show.
“Art is easy and it’s fun, and l like to draw because it’s expression,” said Williamson.
The 2018 Student Art Showcase features about 150 pieces from young artists at six Robbinsdale Area Schools.
“Often high school gets celebrated a lot because of the technical skills of our high school students, but the creativity, imaginations, and the skill level of the students from [grades] sixth all the way up to twelve always impresses me,” said Fair.
Cooper High School art teacher Heidi Miller pointed out, “Two of the big dresses that you’ll see are from my IB [International Baccalaureate] students and those were part of a project we had called Project Greenway, where it was a fashion show. They had to create their item out of recycled materials.”
Leah Dassault was one of the organizers of the show, and she teaches sixth through eighth grade visual art at Sandburg Middle School.
Dassault said, “We choose artwork that is high quality where students put a ton of effort, imagination, and craftsmanship, and care into their work. We take the time to frame it and hang it like a real art gallery so they can experience that.”
