August is an important month for the pro-democracy movement in the Philippines. It gives us the time that we Filipinos need, especially in these very difficult times, to reflect on the importance of cherishing our democracy, and remember those who fought for its very survival. We remember President Benigno Aquino III forty days since his passing, President Corazon C. Aquino, on the twelfth anniversary of her passing, and Senator Benigno S. Jr. on the 38th anniversary of his assassination.

Lest we forget. In his 2014 State of the Nation Address, President Aquino proudly declared: The Filipino is worth dying for. The Filipino is worth living for. The Filipino definitely worth fighting for!
