(14 Jun 2020) Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon called violent protesters "shameful" and welcomed the decision of Black Lives Matter to cancel a planned protest in Glasgow on Sunday.
Police Scotland reported clashes between police in Glasgow and protesters, and later said they did not believe the perpetrators belonged to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Sturgeon condemned the violence as "particularly shameful" during the coronavirus crisis.
She also warned that mass gatherings during the outbreak was "not safe".
"And it potentially undermines all of the hard work that NHS workers have done and the population as a whole have done over the past three months", Sturgeon said.
Sturgeon's comments come after violent clashes with police took place in London on Saturday, with hundreds attending protests claiming they were protecting monuments and statues from anti-racism protesters.
