The Instagram algorithm—explained! 📸
Did you know that Instagram has changed its algorithm since its beginnings? The 2021 Instagram algorithm looks different than the one in place several years ago.
Did you also know that Instagram has more than one algorithm? Many algorithms, classifiers, and processes work together to determine what content you see when you open up your app.
At its core, you can split the algorithm into three different sections based on Instagram features:

According to the head of Instagram, the platform is no longer focused on sharing photos. While photos are still an important part of Instagram, it has shifted focus to different types of multimedia content. More specifically, Instagram has leaned more and more into video content with its introduction of live video, Reels, and IGTV.
So, how does the Instagram algorithm work? Basically, the algorithm uses information like your interactions on the app, post metrics, and user activity to predict whether or not you're likely to interact with a certain post. If you interact with certain accounts more than others, you'll likely see their content more often.
