One year of rotational grazing sheep in just 3 minutes! I just celebrated my one year anniversary as a grazier. I started rotational grazing my flock of Dorper Sheep in August of 2020. This rotational grazing program was part of a last ditch effort to make the flock productive.


Though I had no experience with livestock, I had just completed 2 months or self-guided research in rotational grazing. With this research I decided I wanted to move the sheep to fresh pasture at least once a week. I used electric fencing to split 23 acres into roughly 100 temporary paddocks. The sheep would be confined to a small grazing paddock for a short period of time and moved to a new paddock just a few days later. This process prevented the sheep from grazing near their manure for extended periods of time and kept them from ingesting excess amounts of internal parasites.


In the course of rotational grazing the flock, I bought it from the original owners and became their shepherdess. After one year of rotational grazing these sheep death to parasites is down 100%, our usage of chemical dewormers is down 40%, and the flock grew 80% during a successful lambing season.


I want to share this rotational grazing journey with you in hopes of pointing you to the Lord. Nothing is impossible with Him, and He can enable you to do anything... no matter how little you have to start with.


Starting small is better than not starting at all.
