The 9th Day of "365 Days of Plants" features Dieffenbachia oerstedii also commonly known as Dumb Cane, which has gotten its common name from its toxic nature. Although, as I'll reveal here, my chicken has happily consumed multiple Dieffenbachias across my house and did not seem phased—but I wouldn't put a cat, dog or kid to task on that, so pet-owners and parents beware!
However, I find this to be a really reliable plant and one that is one of the easier plants to care for, particularly because it can thrive in a range of conditions. However, it does get quite stemmy over time, so that may be something to consider if you're planning on growing old with this plant!
We'll cover where this plant is from, lighting, watering, fertilizing, propagation and more!
