Today was a bag of mixed emotions for us here in Rural Laos! The plan was to head off for a few days exploring an unknown part of the country however the world had different plans for us...
We kicked the day off with the tastiest and cheapest khao jee sandwich in all Savannakhet! At only 10k laos kip this thing was so cheap and loaded with stewed pork and spicy paste, without a doubt my favourite in town.
Then we got the cheapest coffee we have had in all Laos. A iced americano for 10k laos kip made in a mokka pot by the side of the road, the coffee shop also had a super cute chubby puppy named Kevin.
This breakfast of both a sandwich and coffee cost 20k kip which is less than £1 how crazy is that.
So we set off out of town and pretty much as soon as we got to the countryside somebody smashed us off our bike from behind... We got cut up pretty bad, leeshes ring got destroyed and yeah it was not great atall our plans were ruined. We genuinely could not believe what had happened...
Luckily 'marvelaos' tour company in savannakhet who we rented our bike from were amazing, they came and helped us, gave us money back for the remaining rental days and just looked after us in general the two young lads working there were incredibly kind.
We had some nice local lao food to relax which included grilled pork and sticky rice with tasty lao dipping sauce.
I couldn't let this defeat us so after we cleaned up our wounds we headed out into the countryside surrounding the city of Savannakhet. This place was absolutely stunning we came across the greenest rice paddies ever and the people working in them were all so friendly.
We spent the afternoon exploring this area and it was honestly so much fun just getting lost here in Rural Laos.
I went to buy a red bull from a local little shop in the village then next minute we were chatting with the locals and they invited us in for some beer Lao! The hospitality is amazing in the countryside. It was a proper laos village party house!
Back in town we stopped to buy some fried banana from a cute old lady we buy from every single day, she works in this spot for over 12 hours a day it's crazy.
Then finished the day with some sticky rice and amazing grilled pork from the night market near where we are staying in Savannakhet.
So basically our day started off absolutely terrible but turned into a day we will never forget! 🇱🇦
