The road forward isn’t always straightforward. I left GIS to gain domain knowledge in utilities. With that knowledge I became better at managing a geographic information system. This advanced me in my career from a GIS technician to GIS analyst. I could have advanced without leaving the industry but I would never give up the knowledge I gained while working as a designer. Sometimes we need to walk away to become better.
