Ling Chi is back revisiting one of the iconic subjects of Chinese Brush Painting. The initial four subjects of Chinese Brush Painting are given the name "The Four Gentlemen." They are Grass Orchid, Bamboo, Chrysanthemum, and Plum Blossom. Each represents a season with Bamboo is Summer, Chrysanthemum is Autumn and Plum Blossom is winter. As we near the end of winter Ling Chi thought it appropriate to focus on Grass Orchid, the gentleman of Spring.
Ling Chi offers an initial discussion on materials, follows up with a description and practice of the essential strokes and culminates with a simple demonstration.
With this lesson, you can see both the alluring simplicity of grass orchid as well as how, even in the simplest subjects there is room for life-long study and never-ending improvement.
