Pamela Winn was six weeks pregnant when she began her prison sentence for a nonviolent offense. After falling while being transported in shackles, it took weeks for her to receive proper prenatal care until she suffered a miscarriage.
She’s calling on Congress to pass the Dignity for Incarcerated Women Act, legislation introduced by Senators Cory Booker and Elizabeth Warren that would ban the shackling of pregnant women in federal prison and provide services that help incarcerated mothers maintain relationships with their children.
Watch Pamela tell her story and read more about the Dignity Act on her petition: change.org/dignityact
