Last month President Zelensky announced plans for the Ukrainian army to acquire a million FPV drones in 2024, and more than 200 Ukrainian companies are now involved in manufacturing the kamikaze drones for the ministry of defence. Ukraine’s allies are helping to fund kamikaze drones too: at least £200 million of the latest UK military aid package to Ukraine is designated for drones including FPV strike models.
Ukraine’s civil society is also backing the FPV drone effort. Funded by public donations the Come Back Alive Foundation, Ukraine’s best known non-governmental weapons procurer, has already purchased and distributed 10,000 FPV kamikaze drones, complete with warheads, to frontline units including the K-2 Battalion over the past three months alone.
