Marquette University Professor Elizaveta Strakhov delves into the fascinating connections between handwritten manuscripts and printed books. Although we view the invention of the printing press as a definitive break between historical periods, handwritten manuscripts continued to heavily influence, shape, and overlap with print production. Dr. Strakhov explores how this transitional period complicates our understanding of historical periods and historical change.
This lecture was first presented to the Milwaukee Art Museum's Fine Arts Society support group and was held in conjunction with the Museum's exhibition "First Impressions: Early Printed Books in Europe."
