Opioid-involved overdose death has become a major health crisis in the US state of Illinois.
A group of recovered drug addicts patrols Chicago’s West Side streets for addicts and often find someone overdosing. When they do, they administer naloxone, also known by its former trade name Narcan.
Naloxone is a medication called an “opioid antagonist” used to counter the effects of opioid overdose, for example, morphine and heroin overdose.
Several major pharmacies in the US are set to face their first trial over their role in the nation's opioid crisis.
Al Jazeera’s John Hendren reports from Chicago.
