The Eyewitness to History video library was created to enable audiences everywhere to hear firsthand testimony from Holocaust survivors. This video was created from a live digital program recorded on July 7, 2021. It featured Irene Fogel Weiss, who was only 13 when Nazi collaborators shaved her hair soon after she entered an overcrowded Hungarian ghetto. Her mother gave her a scarf to wear around her bald head, making her look older and potentially saving her life when Irene was later sent to a killing center. In this program, she discussed her experiences as a teen in Hungary and what happened to her large family when faced with selection and separation at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
