This webinar features Tom Fleischner who is Executive Director of the Natural History Institute and Faculty Emeritus at Prescott College.
In the webinar “The Natural History Institute: Transdisciplinary Research Perspectives from the Field,” Tom Fleischner reviews natural history as an interdisciplinary endeavor based on his own research and the establishment of the Natural History Institute and its predecessor, the Natural History Network. A particular focus is reuniting science, humanities and art in the practice of natural history. He also describes four best practices for interdisciplinary collaboration: 1) If not you, who? 2) It takes courage 3) It takes an open heart (not just an open mind) and 4) Hierarchies and the status quo seek to maintain themselves.
The webinar was broadcast and recorded on April 9, 2019. The webinar series is a project of the Interdisciplinary Integration Research Careers Hub (Intereach), which provides mechanisms for communication, education, and collaboration among those interested in a community of practice around the interdisciplinary and integrative functions critical to team science research.
