Learn about the difference between prose and verse in English. In short, 'prose' refers to writing that is plain and conversational, lacking any predictable rhythm. You speak in prose almost 100% of the time. Most novels are 'prose' fiction novels. Verse refers to writing that is structured and that has a metrical rhythm (e.g. da-da da-da da-da). You often see verse in poems and plays (particularly when higher status characters are speaking).
