The song "You Take My Breath Away" sung by the wonderful Eva Cassidy (written by Claire Hamill) is for me one of the most beautiful songs ever ▶️ [ Ссылка ]. Eva Cassidy's interpretation is simply stunning, incredibly emotional and with a vocal clarity and expressiveness that touches me deeply every time. She was an extraordinary singer, but her music was little-known during her lifetime and she was definitely given far too little attention. She was incredibly talented. Eva Cassidy sadly passed away in 1996 at the age of 33 from melanoma/ skin cancer. So my latest Outlander video is not only a tribute to Jamie & Claire, but also to Eva.
Although I love and feel the song so much, creating the video was difficult for me - or perhaps precisely because it touches me so personally. It should be from Claire's perspective, that was clear. But somehow I couldn't find a way into the video. I made several attempts and discarded them all, nothing appealed to me or I couldn't get any further after a certain point, I was pretty blocked. And I was undecided for a long time whether I should include all the seasons or just certain ones.
As far as that's concerned, I'm still not entirely sure whether my decision was the right one. In the end, I only thematized seasons 1 to 3. But even in the remaining seasons, there are so many scenes that would have fitted the song very well. But it's impossible to use scenes from all the seasons and tell part of their story at the same time. The song only lasts 4:30 minutes. I could have interpreted the song with scenes from later seasons. That was even my first approach, to start with season 4 and show how taken they still are with each other, how much they still take each other's breath away. But I couldn't feel that. Although the message of the song is very romantic and actually positive, I feel sadness, nostalgia and longing when I hear it.
As I said, I decided to tell the song from Claire's point of view, and it was important to me to show that Jamie takes Claire's breath away by being who he is. I didn't want to limit it to physical attraction, cause their love is based on so much more. I start the video with their goodbye at the stones and the period of separation that follows, and show Claire's memories of the man who takes her breath away through scenes from seasons 1 and 2. In my opinion, this best suits the emotions that the song conveys. I've read that the song is dedicated to a past love that didn't last, that broke up because there was too much distance between the lovers. That would explain why I find it so sad.
Well, Jamie and Claire's love had and has endured, despite a distance of 200 years, despite 20 years of separation, despite everything they had to go through and what this love cost them. And so I conclude my video and its little story with a hint of the impending happy ending, their reunion, at the end.
I'm curious to know what you think of the song and whether you agree with my interpretation or whether you would have preferred a different realization. Prepare yourselves Sassenachs, it will be sad, heartbreaking and yet sooo beautiful🥺🫠💘
