For the first time ever, one of the most widely read conservative Japanese newspapers has urged the Shinzo Abe administration to apologize for the country′s past wartime atrocities in his August statement.
An editorial in the Yomiuri Shimbun on Thursday stated that Abe must include a phrase that apologizes to the victims of Japan′s invasion.
Other newspapers including the Tokyo Shimbun and Nihon Geizai Shimbun echoed this sentiment, saying that Abe′s statement should be apologetic in tone regarding its wartime aggression.
