I've seen videos of very compact designs that would allow you to press a button, and dispense multiple items. However, the popular one I saw relies on a dispenser bug, and isn't very customizable (can only go up to 8 as far as I know).
Although my design here is really bulky, you can make any amount of items dispense with a single button click (say, a full dispenser's worth with hitting a button once), and most likely will never be ruined by redstone changes in the future (for instance, the upcoming 1.5 redstone update).
I don't know if this would be practical or desirable in any Minecraft world. I simply made this due to my interesting in experimenting with things in Minecraft.
If a tutorial is desired, then I will make one, probably with voice recording.
NOTES:
- Items that dispense in a unique way probably won't work with this design, like arrows, snowballs, or splash potions. Bottles o' Enchanting work because, although you're not getting the item itself, you're still getting the XP.
-If you intend on dispensing non-stackable items, do know that you can only fit 9 in each dispenser. Say, if you use it in a custom map you're making, I highly recommend using MCedit to make stacks of 127 of the item, something like that. This is also somewhat useful for even stackable items.
Song: Shackleton - There is a Place For Us
Yes, I intentionally made the video longer than it needed to be to fit in that last countdown part. It's just such a perfect way to end something (was the ending song for both a mix by Shackleton, and one of his latest albums, The Drawbar Organ EPs).
