Train and track dangers - don't walk or play on railways / tracks
Danger in trespassing on the railway, tracks, railroads
Public safety announcement video graphically outlining the dangers of playing or trespassing on train tracks and railways from the British Transport Police and Network Rail.
Warning: some viewers may find this video upsetting.
Think it's fun to play on the railway or OK to take a shortcut along the tracks? Think again. This shocking real-life footage is a reality check.
In the last 10 years, almost 170 people have lost their lives trespassing on the railway. Almost half of those killed were under-25.
Most trespassers say taking a shortcut was their main motivation, followed by thrill-seeking. But walking along or messing around on the tracks can result in serious life-changing injuries or death.
BTP are doing all they can to keep people safe by patrolling known areas where trespass is likely to happen and stopping people from getting on to the railway. BTP are also working closely with Network Rail and train operators to reduce trespass by:
Improving security across the network and using covert surveillance to catch offenders.
Going into schools to warn children of the dangers of trespassing.
Putting up posters and signs at trespass hotspots to deter people from going on the tracks.
But BTP can't tackle this issue alone and are urging parents and young people to take a reality check when it comes to trespass. It’s not a game: they are real tracks, with real trains and real life-changing consequences.
If you're a parent or carer, help by talking to your kids about the dangers of going on the tracks. Here is some useful advice to help you do this
