On May 3, 2024, Athens Police Officer Doerr observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the 18-year-old driver indicated she had just popped a tire and was trying to get home as quickly as possible. When asked if she had consumed any alcohol, she stated no. Despite this, Officer Doerr asked her to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. After the tests were completed, the woman was placed under arrest for DUI. At the police station, she was afforded the opportunity to call her mom for advice on whether she should submit to a breath test. She elected to refuse the breath test. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
