A hospital in New Delhi organised a special event to mark the discharge from the facility of the 1000th COVID-19 patient.
Chief Minister of Delhi Arvin Kejriwal was at the event and gave certificates and flowers to the patients discharged from the Rajiv Gandhi super specialty hospital.
During the news briefing, Kejriwal said that despite the growing number of new cases in Delhi there should be no shortage of beds in intensive care units.
India has overtaken Russia to become the third worst-affected nation by the coronavirus pandemic after the country reported 24,248 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
The new cases took the national coronavirus tally to 6,97,413.
The Health Ministry also reported another 379 deaths, taking the fatalities up to 19,693.
The actual numbers, like elsewhere in the world, are thought to be far higher due to a number of reasons including limited testing but the ministry said the recovery rate at 60.85% was continuing to improve with 424,432 people who have recovered.
