On a warm sunny afternoon this lovely relaxing walk is around the beautiful English village of Tattenhall in the Cheshire countryside in England. With its colourful bunting in red, white and blue the village has a number of lovely cottages, houses, shops and pubs. There are several houses in the village which were designed by the architect Clough Williams-Ellis, who is famous for creating the village of Portmeirion in North Wales. The beautiful church of St. Alban's is a Grade II listed building with parts of the church dating back to the early 16th Century. At the start of The Great War in 1914 Tattenhall emptied of many of its able-bodied men as they volunteered to join Lord Kitchener's Army. Remaining residents took action in the community to transform village life. The Barbour Institute, which is the large black and white building near the end of our walk, became 1 of 2 auxiliary hospitals, local farmers provided cheese for the troops and school children held concerts to raise funds for the war and collected eggs for the wounded soldiers. Following the government's request for horses for the war some women worked in depots were they cared for injured army horses. A sculpture representing the large number of horses that were sent from Cheshire to The Great War is in a peaceful area of the village and from here we finish our walk overlooking the beautiful grounds of Tattenhall Estate.
