With the worst of a vicious winter now over, August means warmer weather in Central Zambia. It is now time to start growing another crop of cucumber.
This video shares a detailed look at how we prepare the land for growing the vegetable. The process starts with tilling the soil, and then pulverising clods to achieve the fine tilth desired.
We then layout the blocks, dig furrows, which are filled with organic matter.
The final step is shaping the beds to achieve our famous 'table top' surface, which can then be drenched with a biological insecticide a few days before planting of seeds at the desired spacing.
