It is not every day, you dine above the shimmering turquoise waters in the sandy cove of of La Calita de Portals in Mallorca drinking a chilled copa of champagne. When you find yourself on the terrace of Astir Restaurant in Portal Nous, take note, you are in for an experience.
Situated in the Five star IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Portal Nous, the décor is haute Spanish. The vaulted white-washed interior and modern Mediterranean interior of the restaurant is classic Spanish elegance-there is no showmanship or tricks to the décor. Under the white arches, hydraulic tiles pattern the floor and classic cloth-clad tables are set impeccably. The focus here is on revelations in the kitchen.
The gastronomy emphasises rare delicacies, presented with intellect and modern artistry.
Exquisite local ingredients and the freshest seafood become gustatorial sojourns in flavour. Delicate, sweet langoustines caught that day are served with Romanesco flowers, and tendrils of wild asparagus- Mallorcan delights to be savoured.
The prodigious Astir restaurant is sui genaris; the only venue in Mallorca serving the carnivore´s delicacy from El Capricho. This precious and pricely beef- buey as it is known in Spain- harks from a sun parched and tiny village, Jiminez de Jamuz.
José Gordon is the original farm to table chef, raising beautiful and rare breeds of cattle, caring for them with love for 15 years, then retiring them to his kitchen. The honor of serving his beef is bestowed on few, and Astir has his blessing, as will you!
