Hong Kong authorities are moving to push through a controversial national anthem law. The proposed law makes it a crime to insult or abuse China's national anthem. The bill has been languishing for months with pro-democracy lawmakers attempting to block it. The pro-democracy standoff has been effectively bypassed, now that pro-Beijing lawmaker Starry Lee has taken control of the oversight committee. The committee scrutinises bills and decides when they can be sent for a final vote.
