A little about the dance 'Dayang Dayang': This dance is a variation of hand and hip movements. This dance shows the Pangalay, also known as the fingernail dance, a traditional dance of the Tausug people of Sulu & Sabah area of the Philippines. The dance emphasizes the agility of the upper body. The rhythmic bounces of the shoulder with simultaneous alternating waving of arms are the basic movement of this dance. A popular festival dance. It is performed in wedding celebrations among the affluent families and also performed in other large social gatherings.
*The dancers’ have serious faces with downcast eyes create a mask-like expression. The feeling is conveyed mainly through the arms and hands.
* Postures and gestures suggest emotional metaphors and symbols that offer a broad range of expression.
