Whales in Wales takes inspiration from the population of whales off the Welsh coast. The piece creates an immersive sonic experience that mimics the natural sounds of the ocean, including whale songs and seagull calls before building up to a tranquil meditation that represents the sunrise on the water's surface. The composition draws heavily from George Crumb's "Vox Balaenae," which also uses whale songs to create a musical representation of a maritime environment. However, Whales in Wales diverges from this relation to explore repetition and ambiance.
