As you progress up the levels with Reiki different teachers have different prerequisites you will need to follow. In my lineage we like your symbols and understanding of tools to be aligned from Level 2 onwards. Hopefully this video helps you to understand why.
As always it is just a matter of philosophy and every teacher has their own individual way of teaching and understanding the Reiki lineage and what it means to them.
