The side event, entitled ‘Promoting forests as the force in a green and resilient recovery: Building momentum for the XV World Forestry Congress’, brought an esteemed panel of diverse forest stakeholders for a lively discussion on the following questions:
1.) What are the main challenges in the forest sector that require our collective attention, and what is required to implement solutions?
2.) How can we position forests and the forest sector as an engine of recovery in a post COVID-19 world?
3.) What can we achieve at the XV WFC that would be meaningful for forests and forestry? What would be a desired outcome?
The event features opening remarks by H.E. Byeong-Am Choi, Minister, Korea Forest Service (KFS), Ms Mette Wilkie, Director, Forestry Division, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Dr Eunsik Park, Secretary-General, XV World Forestry Congress, KFS.
The panel is moderated by Mr Peter Csoka, Associate Secretary-General of the XV World Forestry Congress, FAO, and features the following panellists:
- Ms Marie Louise Avana-Tientcheu, Senior Programme Officer, African Forests, People and Climate Change Programme, African Forest Forum (AFF)
- Ms Myrna Cunningham, President, Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC)
