As Long as the Sun Shines looks at how Alberta, Canada’s oil sands development, the world’s largest industrial project, is impacting Indigenous communities. Ian Willms' project focuses on the human and environmental damage caused by an industry whose ever increasing expansion is sizeable enough to be seen from space. Residents in Fort Chipewyan and Fort McKay suffer from rare cancers, birth defects, lupus and other ailments at alarmingly high rates. Even after decades of advocacy, local communities, have yet to receive a comprehensive public health study that’s free of industry influences. Ian sheds lights on those left in the shadows.
