Philips 65PML9506 (Left) vs Sony XR-65X95J (Right)
Movie: Prey in Dolby Vision Bright
In this video I was playing a bit with the black level and gamma of PML9506 trying to eliminate the black crush that PML9506 has out of the box. Unfortunately it is not possible to eliminate the black crush without side effects such as washed out picture.
Sony on the other hand has washed out picture out of the box so you have to use black level at 48 or adv contrast enhancer at low or medium which is working quite amazingly. It creates deeper blacks than PML9506 has and with more shadow detail. For an accurate look I would recommend leaving the contrast enhancer off and using black level at 48 instead, it could be even used at 47 for even deeper blacks. As you could see in the video, on the X95J I could set it toblack level to 45-46 and it still didn't have more black crush than Philips at default 50.
Note: PML9506 is a bit washed out on the left side while X95J is on the right one. Both have VA panels so filming at this distance was not enough to get rid of VA color and contrast shift. Philips viewing angle is quite narrower than Sony's because Sony has x-wide angle filter which improves the viewing angle while Philips has none such a thing.
