Leymah Gbowee talks about women's rights worldwide for the Half the Sky movement. Gbowee is a Liberian peace and women's rights activist and also a Newsweek Daily Beast Africa columnist. As war ravaged Liberia, Gbowee realized it is women who bear the greatest burden in prolonged conflicts. She began organizing Christian and Muslim women to demonstrate together, founding Liberian Mass Action for Peace and launching protests and a sex strike. Her part in helping to oust Charles Taylor was featured in the documentary Pray the Devil Back to Hell.

Transcript:
"When it comes to women's rights issues, the needs, concerns, priorities, all of the things that affect women, I don't see it here or there. Rape and abuse is present in America just as it is in Africa, homelessness is present in Africa just as it is in here, you have issue of maternal mortality in Africa just as it is in here. The scales may be different but it is the same, and if you say women's issues and women's rights issues are not issues, that we should say, let's take it in— if one woman is hurt, all women are hurt, there is no here and there about it."
