Join me on a walk through the town of Jasper in the spectacular Jasper National Park. I’ve always liked Jasper's laid-back feel; it is a busy tourist destination but doesn’t feel overrun by tourists like some other towns in the Canadian Rockies do.

I started along Patricia Street, home to many of the town's stores, and then along Connaught Drive, which has many restaurants and attractions, such as the totem pole and historic steam engine.

After this, I head to the north end of town, where the residential areas and school are located.

TOWN OF JASPER

Jasper is a picturesque town in Alberta, Canada. Nestled within the heart of Jasper National Park, it is a destination known for its stunning natural landscapes and outdoor activities. Jasper is approximately 370 kilometres west of Edmonton and is accessible via the scenic Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16).

Jasper's location is one of its most defining features. Positioned within the Canadian Rockies, it offers breathtaking views of rugged mountains, pristine lakes, and lush forests. The town is surrounded by Jasper National Park, the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, covering an area of over 11,000 square kilometres.

The town is a gateway to numerous hiking trails, ranging from easy walks to challenging backcountry routes. Popular hikes include the Maligne Canyon, a deep, narrow gorge carved by the Maligne River, and the Valley of the Five Lakes, where visitors can admire the lakes' vibrant colours.

Jasper is home to diverse animals for those interested in wildlife. It is common to see elk, deer, bighorn sheep and even bears in the surrounding wilderness. The park also offers opportunities for bird watching, with species such as the bald eagle and the great horned owl being frequent sights.

During winter, skiing and snowboarding are popular at Marmot Basin, a ski resort just a short drive from the town. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice climbing are also popular winter activities.

In the summer, visitors can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, and fishing on the numerous lakes and rivers in the area.
