On June 21, 1964, civil rights workers Michael H. Schwerner, Andrew Goodman and James E. Chaney were slain in Philadelphia, Mississippi; their bodies were found buried in an earthen dam six weeks later.
F.B.I. agents found the bodies of the 3 missing Civil Rights Workers, who vanished 6 weeks ago. They were buried in a small dam five miles from the town of Philadelphia where they were last seen. The bodies were taken to a hospital in Jackson, the State capital, for identification. By morning it was confirmed that 2 of the bodies were those of Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman. There was little doubt that the third body was that of James Chaney.
