Does money know color, creed, or sex? But why do societies? For women in Africa’s informal sector, the seismic shocks that Covid presented also meant being consistent and creative. Now, more than ever, is the time for renewed entrepreneurial vigour, smart social re-engineering and some extraordinary responses. With an economy plagued by the pandemic, and amid rising youth unemployment and looming recession, these female business owners recognized gaps in the market. Who are the survivors and thrivers who put heart into their hustle and also ended up fronting some of Africa’s coolest young start-ups in the process?
