This ancient Israelite house contains everything that the family who lived here would need: rooms for animals, food prep and cooking (an olive press can be seen here), hospitality, storage, and sleeping. These types of houses were usually built in two stories, but the top floor has never survived.
This building was excavated at Hazor which was the largest Canaanite city that ever existed. The city is known from ancient texts that compare it with massive cities of the ancient world such as Mari and Babylon. It is also mentioned in the Bible in Joshua 11 where it is said to be destroyed by the invading Israelite armies and Judges 4 in the story of Deborah and Barak.
