ROSE KENNEDY'S FAMILY ALBUM
J.F.K. LIBRARY FOUNDATION Book Number: 79941 Product format: Hardback
Following a warehouse fire in the 1950s that destroyed the Kennedy family home movies, Rose Kennedy lovingly collected family photographs during her long life. As the Kennedy family's stature grew from 1938 onward, so did the request for photographs, and many she found missing from her album. But here are the best, a remarkable photographic record chronicling the family from the 1870s to the first half of the 20th century, 300 images preserved. They capture the spirit of personalities and deep familial bonds of a uniquely American dynasty in its early years. From a pair of turn of the last century newlyweds to a vibrant clan of hopeful young men and women on the brink of their brilliant destinies, this is an unashamedly lavish picture book grouped by the early years, Boston years, Bronxville years, Embassy years, War years and Political Beginnings. It begins with a beautiful portrait of Rose's mother with her dark Irish looks and fine complexion, the Kennedy-Fitzgerald wedding of the summer 1914 of Rose and Joe, ice skating, the birth of Joe Jr, John Fitzgerald-Kennedy, and his siblings, often in line ups, skiing, at the Vatican, swimming, cycling, riding, on trips to Ireland, Palm Beach, Regent's Park Zoo, Jack riding a camel in Egypt, spring 1939, Harvard and schooling, Eunice describing the relationship between the Kennedy sisters and their older brothers, the young men in military uniforms, family dogs to running for congress. 352 heavyweight pages, 8½" x 10", the private collection covers the years 1878 to 1946 and has a foreword by Caroline Kennedy.
