In 2014 I filed for a design patent on my bottle opener design, the Bottlehook. I'm not a lawyer and I don't know a whole bunch about this stuff, but here's a bit about what the patent process was like and the difference between all the different types of patents, etc. Patents can protect your intellectual property, but they should not be the reason you don't act on your ideas :)
