Just a quick detonation of some 4” x 1¼” ID unoptimized shape charge with a crappy cone. It was going against a couple inches of solid steel. The jet terminated at a depth of ⅝” only… 69/25/6 ANNMAL was used, 100g of it. The cone had a 42 degree angle. Apex to base was 0.5”, so best calculated standoff was determined to be 1.25” and that’s the distance I went with.
If we want to pierce through this plate, we’ll need a nicer cone shape and a better suited explosive for this purpose, I’m thinking a liquid one, such as PLX made with Methyl nitrate instead of Nitromethane… Melt-cast AN explosives with Sodium hypophosphite as a fuel are also of consideration, check out EnergeticHeretic’s tests for more information.
